I declined this call, it is an unsolicited, unwanted caller from upstate NY. I believe other reports that it is a scam.

Called said they were with Microsoft and wanted $500 to fix my computer

My computer was locked up and this caller said they were the microsoft security team. Spent time supposedly fixing my computer and then wanted me to send them money. Is this a scam?

I believe this is a scammer. I received a "blaring" message on my computer yes****ay, supposedly from the Microsoft Security Center, stating my computer had been compromised and warning me not to turn it off or I would lose everything and be unable to use my computer. Gave me a number to call - 814-447-8425. Did so. Spent 45 minutes on phone and then they charged me $299 to fix it. Was to send them a check. one hour later, received a notice it had been fixed by the "tech team" and to call them at 518-261-9250 - a totally different area. Trying this morning to determine if I was indeed scammed.
