Leave a CommentGot the same call from the "Westside Gym" in Chelsea, MI. Same spiel as you all listed. I have a coworker who works out in the area so I thought he might have actually entered me in such a contest. Unfortunately, I wasn't quick enough to catch on and "confirmed" (now I realize they didn't have it) my first and last name. The number was listed as Utica, MI and was 586-803-8049. UPDATE:I just got off the phone with the real Westside Gym in Chelsea, MI (734-475-1900). They are aware of this and apparently it is a legitimate deal. It's a marketing company that makes these calls for the gym (at least the one in Chelsea). The woman at the gym said they will honor the "contest deal" as the marketer stated it (two-year membership for two at only $8/month). I'm not going to do it, but I thought this might be helpful info.
Same thing happened to me this afternoon however the number was 586-803-8061, two year membership own, for me and a friend. Want me to meet manager in next few days. $8.00 month maintenance fee not covered. The different twist was that someone entered my name into a contest and I had won the two year membership. She asked me for my first name and I was not quick enough to realize that she was fishing and told her. I know no-one I know would enter me into a contest and I NEVER enter contest. Don't know what they are fishing for, but certainly will not go to see what this is about.
I just got a call from this number today, and said that I'd won a 2 person 2-year membership to "Westside Gym" in Chelsea. However, the 586 area code is Utica, MI. She asked what my name was, and unfortunately, my antennae weren't sensitive enough to catch the scam, and told her my first name. She then said, "That's what I have." She said that I would have to pay an $8/month maintenance fee, but the $100 initiation fee and $40/month membership fee were covered by them. She then pushed me into meeting with one of the managers in the next 3 days. I thought that I should look up some info on this, and set a meeting just to get off the phone. After looking up some info, and thinking about how I'm sure that I never entered such a contest (what would I need with a gym membership, even if free?) I called the number back. The same woman answered "Westside Gym". I asked where I would have entered this contest that I won, and she said so****ing about entry boxes at area malls and at the gym itself. Since I haven't lived in the area for a year and half, and haven't been back to visit, (nor would any of my friends have entered me in such a contest) I was certain at that point that she was lying.Unfortunately, these people have my name and cell number. But hopefully, by reporting this, others will be able to avoid getting scammed.
Got a call at 7pm. I didn't answer. No message.
I got the same call. They couldn't tell me my last name. I answered the phone using my first name so of course she could repeat that. Either a scam or a very strange marketing technique.
Heard its a scam. Dont want them calling me a***n and have no idea how they got my cell number.

Got a call from a woman saying I won a membership to powerhouse gym in farmington. When I told her I don't live around there she told me there are other locations. She tried to set up a time I would come and tour and meet with the manager. There is no power house in Farmington, only Farmington Hills and it does not have a 586 area code. weird! seems like other people got similar calls
