the best option is to answer, decline, and then explicitly ask them to remove you from their calling list. the list may be regenerated after a while but that should by you time. good luck.

Got a call from this number twice, but no one answered after I picked up the call.  If this is a fundraiser, then why didn't they say so****ing and just wasted their time playing with the phone????I'm kind of confused....

I have been getting calls from this number over 3 months. One time I answered but I told I would be heading out the door - so they said they would call back. It is usually after 8pm, but it was Sa****ay at 3pm this time around. I am an UBC alumni so it makes sense that I get calls from them. After finding out who they were, I never answer the call...........

I too have been getting calls from this # over the last 2 days, but I have never had an****ociation with UBC so it's quite alarming that they would have my phone #. Plus, they call as late as 8:45pm- how rude! I'll take your advice and not pick up. Thanks

Got a call earlier from this number with 'Private' on the call display with the number. I am also a UBC Alumni. No message was left.By the way, donating to UBC puts money into funding their cruel and unnecessary animal testing labs!!Don't give funds to UBC!

I know a friend who used to work as a ubc fundraiser caller, telling them you don't want to be called isn't enough. You have to say you want to be put on the no call list and not to be contacted for any "charity opportunities". They are legit though they are not trying to scam you. Some of the things they fund raise for are pretty important like funding bursaries and scholarships.

same here, have been getting multiple calls from 604 827 4173. i don't recognize the number so i don't answer. they never leave a message. i'm a UBC grad so makes sense it might be fundraising since there's no-one else who would be calling me from this area code... however if indeed it is UBC telemarketing, it's a TERRIBLE way to get any alumni funding!

I got a call on my cell phone voicemail from this number on 1/8/09 at the equivalent of 5:21 PM Vancouver time.  No message either.

I got a call from 604-827-4173 today, 11/7/09. the caller is a female, said her name is Joyce, a second year student from ****a at UBC.She pressed me hard for donation for text books. She said poor students at UBC can not afford text books and Li***ry only has 4 text books to lend out for about 2 hours each. It sounds very strange to me with this kind of pitch for donation. I want to block this phone number. She knows our home address and phone number. I wonder where she got our personal information from? who she really is?

604-827-4173 Keeps calling me, even after I politely tell them I am not interested in donations.

Have had similar experiences with this number. Seems I'm getting more and more mystery calls on my cellphone these days... :S

don't get on the do-no-call-list. I heard they're just selling the numbers they get from that list to companies, so don't bother. Filing complaints won't do any good if they really are planning to sell them. Not picking up is the best solution.

I have been receiving a call from this number everyday for the past week, usually around 8pm.  Never answered because it is UBC asking for money.  My phone number is on the do not call list (donotcall.gov) so I file a complaint everytime they call.If you get calls from this number I recommend you also file complaints (make sure you are on the do not call list first obviously) so that this can be stopped.  Yes, they will go after international callers (so it says in the faq)

I also have been getting a lot of calls from this number in the past couple weeks. It says Private. There is never any message left. It would make sense that it is the UBC fundraiser as my wife is an alumni and they are horribly insistent (they give us credit card offers!) I Googles this number because it seemed familiar and I thought it might be someone I know but I guess it is just this dumb UBC telemarketing call... I swear, that university is more of a property and money raising ins***ution than a school these days.

604-827-4173 is a UBC Gift Fundraising number.  Received two calls from that number, but when we answered there was no one there.

also got calls from 604-822-9960 and 604-827-4173 multiple times. never took the calls though and there was no message left.
