In the past week, the Michigan State Police Gladstone Post has been contacted multiple times and advised that our social security number has been used in fraudulent activity and it will be froze until the issue has been cleared up. When talking to the "operator" they were advised it was the Michigan State Police and the caller quickly ***g up. The Michigan State Police obviously does not have a social security number. These scam calls are going out to everyone, including the police departments. The phone numbers that are appearing on your caller ID are "s****" numbers, meaning they are fake. It looks like a local phone number, but it is not. Do not call that number back, because that is not the actual number that called you. NEVER provide any personal information over the phone, especially your social security number, date of birth, driver's license number, bank account number or credit card numbers. If you did not enter any contests, you did not win anything. If they send or try sending you a check asking you to cash and return the extra, it is NOT a real check. If you are asked to pay for ANYTHING with gift cards, IT IS A SCAM!!
