Leave a CommentThey called me as well.I just called the number back and the guy answered. I said "you called me today and I turned your number over to my lawyer. I****ume this is regarding the verison 2003 scam. I don't expect to receive another phone call from you. Have a good night."His reply was "ok . . . . ok . . . . ok"I sometimes wish that you could physically reach thru the phone.
An elderly friend of ours received a call from this number. They said they were Plaza****ociates, a collection agency, and that our friend owed $123. to Verizon from 2003. They left a message on our friend's answering ma****e and I called the number back for him. The man I talked to insisted we arrange for payment right away and when I told him I was going to call Verizon first and check on it, he got very nervous, insisting that Verizon would not be able to help me because they had turned over all of their records on this account to them (Plaza). He told me this 3 times...every time he insisted we arrange payment and I told him I would call Verizon first. I did call Verizon, and talked to someone in the finance dept. She checked the computer and said that they have never heard of this agency and that they are not on their list of agencies they use for collection purposes. They also checked our friend's account and said there were no outstanding balances. When the man asked for the last 4 digits of our friend's social security number, I gave him the last 4 digits of the phone number, since they already knew that :) This is a collection agency based in New York City (I googled their name), but the only thing good I read about them was on their own website. Everything else I read was really bad. Their "thing" is trying to convince people that they owe money that they really don't owe and demanding immediate payment.
I got a call from this number saying I had an unpaid balance from Verizon from 2003 of $400.00. No way. The woman could not give me any information about it. She said it was a recorded conversation but wouldn't take the code number left in the message.
I also got a call from this number several times, it keeps asking for a "Sue Wong..if this is not Sue Wong Press **** up" So I always **** up, but they keep calling! This time I just let the answering ma****e take it then it says, "if this is Sue Wong Press **** up...by not disconnecting you are confirming that this is Sue Wong, this is a call about and unpaid medical debt from Paragon Emergency Medicine, please call us back at 866-441-8784, refer to reference number 649100001." I have to tell you I'm getting really tired of this number calling twice a day.
I knew immediately this was a scam when they said it was regarding an unpaid medical debt. That in itself is laughable. Then the only way to confirm my information was to give them my social security number. Yeah right! Don't think so! So I turned the tables on him and told him to tell ME the last 4 digits of my social security number that he had listed and my address. The ***** did it without question and it was NOT EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE! This is nothing but a phishing scam.
