Received a call this morning.
A person named Steve claiming to be with a collection agency (did not give the name) called me from this number. He stated that he was collecting on a bill from my doctor's office that was sent to collection in 2007. He refused to provide details (I told him I thought it was strange that my doctor -- I'm still going to this doctor, mind you -- had never informed me of this before sending the bill to collection) but insisted that, if I would give him my credit card number or bank routing number he would make sure that my credit "was not negatively affected." He was really pushy, insisting that it had to be done today. Right now. Uh, no. Who just gives out their credit card or bank number over the phone? I said that I would have to call to verify his claim and that I would call him back. That is never going to happen. My biggest questions: How did he get not only my doctor's information, but my work phone number? Has my doctor's office system been hacked? That is a scary thought.
