This is a perfect example of why never to buy online from Sears when you can buy from someone like Amazon who knows how to engage in e-commerce. These idiots will hold up or cancel your order even if they leave no message, so you were never aware of any contact. (i.e. No message, and you only know they called due to the missed call history on a phone.) The bottom line is that this policy makes buying from Sears online a real hassle, and offers zero extra protection from the consumer, and minimal protection for Sears due to the way CC fraud protection & reimbur*****t works. My sister used to work for Sears credit department, and it's basically an organization whose primary goal is to convince the rest of Sears to keep them employed rather than join the 21st Century.
I got a call from this number also, the guy said he represents sears.com. I didn't like the questions at all, so I ***g up the phone and checked the confirmation e-maile I received right after my purchase from sears.com last night and the same number was listed. Apparently, they use an information/investigative database that compiles all of your information, SSN, all known addresses, registered vehicles, next of kin ,neighbors, etc. and they ask questions that only you should know baed off of that. It seems legit because gift card fraud is beyond huge right now. I do agree they should ask better questions and nothing SSN related.
I received a call from this number but wasn't able to answer at the time. They did not leave a message. I did have an order into sears. If this is the fraud department verifying orders with the threat to cancel if not confirmed, they didn't do their due diligence. I received an email confirmation stating my order had been shipped within several hours. I have mixed emotions about receiving phone calls, if I had wanted to speak to someone I wouldn't have ordered online. However, it's nice to know that some companies are being proactive.
These people aren't crooks...they called me and they do work for sears verification dept. They are there to protect us as consumers FROM the crooks. My card was used for an online purchase...it wasn't me, but they found me and cancelled the order. She told me to call my credit card company to report it and she was right..they had tried to use it several other places too...no one called me but sears not even my bank! Thanks sears for looking out for us!
get a real job you lazy, no good, thieves.
THIS IS FRAUD IT IS NOT SEARS . YOU F''''''KING CROOKS
I got a message from sears.com after I placed an order this morning. A guy wanted me to call them back otherwise my order may be canceled. So I called them back. A woman verified my billing address, and asked what product I purchased. I answered. Then she continued to ask me my last four digits of SSN. I asked, how can you verify my SSN? Do you have my SSN? Then she said they will contact some credit service to verify my information. I think fine, so I told her. But she said she wanted the middle two digits. The problem is, during the phone call it had very bad back ground noise. It made me think I heard her question wrong, so I gave her. But that made me feel very uncomfortable. She then asked me my birthday. It was really too much! I didn't want to tell her. Then she said just month and year is fine. It still made me feel uncomfortable. Then I called my credit card company and asked if those questions are legit. They said no. I shouldn't give them those information.
in our case it looks like it had to do with eBay purchase. Looks like a 'drop ship'. The guy we purchased from is****ociated card and he provides our shipping addresseBay drop ship storefront <-- my CC# <-- meeBay drop ship storefront -- drop shippers CC# --> Sears.comSears.com --- confirming my order by referring to drop shippers CC# (last 4 digits) --> me
Its the Sears and Verfication Department. They call people just to make sure they placed and order or not. I had someone steal my cc# and use it on their website .They were able to cancel the order.
This number is for SEARS verification dept. they call when an order is placed using credit cards, thankfully they call to make sure that it is the correct person using the credit card!
Same here, no order!
I got the same message today on my voice mail. They pretended to be from Sears.com but I didn't order anthing so I did call back.
Caller calls identifiying herself as sears.com, references an order number and leaves this number to call back. Says order will be cancelled if not confirmed. Called back and repeated the message with a "second" order. Problem is, we did not order anything from them.
