I'm a DE notary, but it is a function of my business, and not my main trade.  When I received a call from 21st Century Legal services, it was after 8pm EST, I happened to be at my desk.  The woman asked if I service a town in DE, she had trouble*****ouncing the name.  Gave me the client's name, address and home phone & asked that I show up the following morning (10am) to perform notary duties to a refinancing.  She asked for my email (unusual - because I'm listed on various notary sites with my email data) and said they'd forward the closing do***ents, fedex labels etc to me and to enclose my bill.  Also unusual, because it left me open to charge what I pleased, rather than tell me what they'd pay for the notary service.Called the client, a desperate woman, who told me she had amassed the information requested (tax returns, copies of bills, credit card data, hardship letter and drivers licenses) and had the post dated check for the amount she was advised, however, her husband would not be there to sign, as he was working, and she had been told by 21st that was acceptable.  WHAT?  I immediately researched the company and find over three dozen complaints a***nst this firm and 1st hand testimonials that notaries who have been duped do not get paid.  My concern is the average Joe homeowner these folks are preying upon.  They're turning over very sensitive data to preditors.  Any ethical person has to warn these desperate people to beware.  I'm calling every legislator I can in the morning to make a statement.
