United Collection Bureau (also known as UCB) is headquartered in Toledo, OH, and has been offering debt collection services since 1959. Over the years, it has evolved to become a national player in collecting debt for a variety of industries, including healthcare, financial services, utilities, communications, and the government. United Collection Bureau boasts of having over 1,000 and nine call centers, and being licensed in all 50 states. UCB also touts their “predictive dialers,” which mean that consumers receive robo-calls, as well as their ability to route calls to specific employees based on the account number, age of caller, language preference, or balance amount. While United Collection Bureau says that all debt collectors must parti****te in university level coursework at “UCB Learning Ins***ute,” it has been sued over two dozen times over the past year for allegedly violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Stop United Collection Bureau Harassment Even though United Collection Bureau works as a professional collection agency, across the Web there are reports that UCB's ****ods of debt collection sometimes cross the line into harassment. As per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act or FDCPA, the use of threats is strictly prohibited. This extends to threatening to repossess personal belongings, such as your home or car, if those possessions weren't used as collateral. Sometimes, debt collectors - whether from United Collection Bureau or any other debt collection agency - may try to extract confidential information from consumers, such as Social Security numbers or details about employment information. Remember that you have the right to withhold this information from such debt collection agencies. Indeed, you shouldn't part with any personal information in your conversations with debt collectors. If your feel that United Collection Bureau has harassed you, you should contact a fair debt attorney. Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, you have the right to redress. A fair debt attorney should represent you free of charge, since the FDCPA says that a debt collection agency that violates the law must pay for your attorney fees.
