Woodhaven police put out a warning to residents Thursday about a local phone scam circulating that has been brought to their attention. According to the department, police have received reports from residents who said someone has contacted them claiming to be an officer or member of the sheriff’s department. Woodhaven police said someone posing as a member of law enforcement often do the following: ● Refers to the resident by name ● Tells the resident the call is being recorded ● Tells the resident they missed a court appearance or jury duty The fake officer tells residents they need to send money or a warrant will be issued for their arrest or they may turn themselves in to jail. Sometimes scams such as these include s****ing a legitimate police agency phone number and using the real name of a law enforcement officer in an attempt to ***n the trust of the victim. According to police, under no cir***stances will a government agency of any kind take gift cards as payment. Addressing the local issue specifically, Woodhaven police emphasizes residents should be aware that: ● Woodhaven police do not call individuals and demand or request money from residents under any cir***stances. ● The department, or any legitimate law enforcement agency, does not call residents seeking payment for outstanding traffic citations or warrants - including claims of unpaid federal or state taxes. ● Individuals claiming to collect debts may try to instill fear in****ential victims to persuade them to forward money.

Scam, foreign crooks trying to hack computer, seek ransom

John Greer Hillary Coleman called from 888-257-3157 claiming felony complaint filed and left a message. Called them back to advise their number was forwarded to local District Attorney office and to Texas Ranger fraud investigation help. Robert got really mad and told me to call anyone I wanted, got aggressive, and wanted to know who I was. Clearly not a legit business so ***g up on him. They need to be shut down.

JM Called my cellphone. First thing she asked was "Whom am I speaking with?". I responded with "Who is calling?". She declined and repeated her initial question. I responded the same way (with my question). Third time around she still refused to identify who she was and the reason for the call so I told her that obviously this was not that important a call, to remove my name form her list and never call a***n. I then terminated the call.
